WESTLOCK — The sounds of folk, country, contemporary and bluegrass will return to the stage Nov. 3 when the Westlock Cultural Arts Theatre Society (CATS) opens its 2023-2024 concert series at the Cultural Arts Theatre in Westlock.

This year’s lineup includes a variety of music and entertainment with performances from Jake Vaadeland & The Sturgeon River Boys, Andrew Allen, Travis Matthews, Tina Hartt, Travis Dolter and Chris Funk.

“We’re always eager to start a new series. It’s a great lineup this year,” said concert series committee member Marilee Jespersen, noting one performer in particular, magician and musician Chris Funk, will provide great family entertainment.

All performers were recruited through the Alberta Showcase earlier this summer, and were invited to be part of the Westlock CATS concert series, noted Jespersen, adding that most of the performances will be presented on a Friday evening with the last show of the season, Chris Funk, presented on Wednesday, March 6.

“We always keep our patrons in mind when choosing the artists (to bring to Westlock) that our residents would enjoy,” she said.

While single seats are available for each show, the Westlock CATS is trying something new this year with their subscriptions, by providing both a six series subscription for all productions or a pick 4 option, where patron can choose to attend just four shows instead of six. The new subscription format is expected to help accommodate residents’ schedules, particularly over the holiday season and colder winter months when many of them may be away.

“We’re going to try (pick 4) for the first time this year and we’ll see if that benefits some of our patrons,” said Jespersen, noting this year’s concert series is expected to be another season filled with great music and great entertainment.

“We do have a variety of genres and it’s great to have live music in our own town here, in our backyard,” she said. “We don’t have to travel far and it’s always a good night out.”
