There are smiles all around as Westlock Food Bank president Sharon Kennedy (second from left) receives a cheque from the 100 Women Who Care (WWC) for $10,000. Presenting the cheque are 100 WWC executive Deneen Ducharme at left, and at right, Denise Boulerice and Tammy Round.

Last Wednesday evening, Sept. 20 was the 28th meeting of the 100 Women Who Care of Westlock, where they heard presentations requesting funds from the Clyde Ag Society, Westlock Child Care and the Westlock Food Bank.

After the presentations and the votes were counted, a cheque for $10,000 was presented to a smiling Sharon Kennedy, president of the Westlock Food Bank. (Another $100 was later added by a generous donor.)

With increasing demand for the services at the Food Bank each Tuesday, the donation from the 100 Women Who Care will no doubt be a very welcome help.

Westlock’s 100 Women Who Care founder Deneen Ducharme said all three organizations are very deserving, but the vote went to the Food Bank.

“Clyde Ag Society and Westlock Child Care could both use some love. We are hopeful we can help them as well,” she added.

For several months, there has been less than 100 women involved in the group, but Ducharme noted from last Wednesday’s quarterly meeting that they are back upf to $10,000 (100 women at $100 each quarter).

“(I’m) so proud of this group and this community,” she said. “We are thrilled to have made our way back to 100! Our members have been so supportive by bringing in new ladies. My heart is full!”

She added, “The presentations went well and we also had a nice add in while the vote was being held - Kara Rimmer from Healing Hearts gave us information and insight into her program."
