Andy Boissonnault displays shocked surprise at having won $1,000 after his winning bid of $430 and his first pick of 10 sports drink mugs at the Westlock Rotary Interact Club fundraiser event held at the Westlock Community Hall Nov. 5.

WESTLOCK – There were lots of different sports jerseys worn to the Westlock Rotary Interact Club’s annual fundraiser dubbed Sports Night at the Westlock Community Hall Nov. 5, but if there had been an award for the most from any one organization, it would clearly have been Oilers jerseys.

Following the meal, auctioneer Justin Mayer of Team Auctions of Drayton Valley, assisted by Chad Wolff helping to catch bids, the live auction took place, with lots of action from the crowd of almost 200 in attendance. A highlight of the sale was a row of 10 sport drink bottles. Inside one, it was revealed, was $1,000. The high bidder would get first pick of the bottles. None were to be opened until all bottles were sold. The bidding stopped at $430, with Andy Boissonnault getting the first pick. Eight other bottles were soon snapped up for $430, and Mayer was able to run the bid for the last bottle to $650. To his obvious surprise, when the bottles were opened, Boissonnault found he was the winner.

It didn’t take him long to spend the rest of his winnings as he purchased the next live auction item for $600.

Interact leader Brandi Wolff, who is also Westlock Rotary Club co-president along with Todd Ducharme, said the auction items for the evening brought in around $13,000 in total.

She and fellow Rotarian Megan Balascak have led the Interact Club for the past five years, and this year the group numbers 25 teens, all from R.F. Staples School.

Proceeds from the evening fundraiser will be used by the Interact Club for local and international service projects.
