WESTLOCK – A Westlock-woman “familiar” to authorities faces a charge of robbery after police say she swiped a kid’s cellphone from his hands while he was waiting in the ER of the Westlock hospital.

Westlock RCMP Detachment acting-commander Cpl. Riley Sutherland says that at 5 p.m., Feb. 11, they were told a woman had grabbed a cellphone from the hands of an eight-year-old boy in the emergency room at the Westlock Healthcare Centre and fled the scene.

“Basically, she fought with the boy, took the phone out of his hands and ran out of the hospital,” said Sutherland Feb. 16. “We were able to locate the female with the assistance of the family … she was found quite quickly afterwards.”

Sutherland, who declined to name the woman, said the accused has had one court appearance, but bail was not spoken to and she will be back in Westlock Provincial Court in the coming weeks.
