The Village of Boyle has hired former Athabasca County councillor Charlie Ashbey as its new chief administrative officer.

Ashbey started his new job last Monday.

“When the job became available, I was interested immediately,” he said.

Ashbey said he’s excited to get started, and has already started his “homework.”

“There is a lot of catching up to do,” he said. “I will be working with the existing staff to get up to speed.

“I’ve got solid roots around here,” Ashbey added. “I grew up here, and my farm is pretty much mid-way from Boyle to Athabasca,, so I have always had a lot of involvement in the Boyle area.”

He also said his nine years of serving on Athabasca County council would be an asset in his new role.

“He just seemed like the right fit for us,” said Boyle Mayor Don Radmanovich, adding that having a CAO, after going four months without one, “will take pressure off everybody.”

“It’s nice to have some help,” said acting CAO Elly Zeggelaar, who can now concentrate on her normal duties as director of corporate services.
