The debate could have gone on for weeks longer, but Athabasca County council finally passed third reading on the water and wastewater rates at their Sept. 13 meeting.

ATHABASCA — There were some tweaks made between the first and second readings of Athabasca County's new water and wastewater rates bylaw made Aug. 25, but now the bylaw is finally, officially, in the books.

At the Sept. 13 regular Athabasca County council meeting the third and final reading of Bylaw 014-2022 Water and Wastewater Rates was completed and came into effect retroactively to Sept. 1.

The minimum consumption charge will be 12 cubic metres both for commercial and residential and anything over that will be charged at $8.00 per cubic metre.

Truck fill rates are set at the same amount, $8 per cubic metre. Colinton residents will be charged a minimum of $76.67 per month, while rural subdivisions, Grassland and Wandering River residents will pay a minimum of $96 per month.

The sewer charge will also fall to 20 per cent of the actual monthly water billing in Colinton, Grassland, and Wandering River.

Rochester residential and commercial sewer charges will remain the same and the debenture adjustment will be carried forward in Colinton.

Effective January 1 however, rates will increase to $11.15 per cubic metre, meaning Colinton's cost will rise to a minimum charge of $114.47 per month with rural subdivisions, Grassland and Wandering River rates increasing to minimum of $133.80 per month.

The truck fill charge will stay at $9 per cubic metre.
