Athabasca Legion hosting Remembrance Day events at multiplex, Legion branch

The Athabasca Legion will continue its tradition this Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) of promoting remembrance of those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice. Beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Athabasca Legion will continue its tradition this Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) of promoting remembrance of those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., procession participants will gather at the entrance to the Athabasca Regional Multiplex. All attendees are asked to be seated by 9:45 a.m.

The service will commence at 10 a.m. in the Jim Woodward Fieldhouse. The procession will come in, and military representatives will give opening addresses. County and town dignitaries will also speak. The “Last Post” and the traditional two minutes of silence will be at 11 a.m. Wreaths will also be laid in honour of those who have passed on behalf of groups or individuals.

Approximately 500 people are expected to attend.

After the ceremony, a free lunch will be provided at the Athabasca Legion Branch.

Live entertainment from karaoke specialist Bonita Pederson will be provided starting at noon, and dinner will be provided at 5 p.m., which will be $12 for adults; children ages eight and under are free.
