BOYLE – Boyle council is looking to bring more heat to the village's fire hall.

At their latest council meeting on Aug. 6, council unanimously passed a motion to request a more detailed quote for overhead heaters before making a final decision.

Mayor of Boyle Colin Derko was shocked that the heaters were not installed when the hall was first built.

“I’m actually surprised that we didn’t have this already to be honest with you,” Derko said. “I put back up in my garage just because you open that shop door and then all of a sudden something happens and its cold in there and you get all that heat that rushes out.”

The hall is currently utilizing in floor heating, although there are sections of the floor heaters that are leaking — these loops carry heat from a heat source to the floor. Most of the loops are still functioning, but to repair the leaking ones, it would mean breaking up the floor, which council just spent considerable funds on an epoxy surface for the floors last year.

A benefit to installing these overhead heaters would be that it provides a heating back-up in case more of the in-floor heating loops fail.

“That fire hall, you got to open those doors to go fight fire. You can’t have that stuff freeze up when you go to get it,” Derko said.

“And disaster always happen at the worse time. It’s always in a terrible weather position.”

Once council accepts the quote and an official motion has been made, the price of the heaters and the work will be determined.
