Athabasca RCMP make more arrests in rural parts of county

The Athabasca RCMP had a busy weekend of recovering stolen property, announcing on July 7 that a number of search warrants had been executed and arrests made in the rural area of Athabasca County over the course of four days.

The Athabasca RCMP had a busy weekend of recovering stolen property, announcing on July 7 that a number of search warrants had been executed and arrests made in the rural area of Athabasca County over the course of four days.

“This area stretches from Rochester to Baptiste Lake and all areas in between these locations,” Sgt. Brian Scott stated in a press release.

Robert William Lysohirka, 24, has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, possession of stolen property and numerous firearms-related charges, including possession of loaded prohibited firearm.

Lysohirka is in custody and will appear in court today (July 9).

Lysohirka’s brother Andrew was charged in connection with a Perryvale theft ring only weeks ago; his case is also before the courts.

Matthew Boreen of Athabasca, 28, has been charged with possession of stolen property, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and sundry firearms charges.

Billy-Joe Deren of Rochester, 33, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while his driver’s license was suspended.

The investigation is ongoing.
