Big night for Athabasca 4-H

Athabasca’s 4-H Beef Club gathered for their awards night June 24. As family, friends and sponsors enjoyed a beef dinner at the Athabasca Seniors Drop-In Centre, 4-Hers took home prizes for their year of hard work.

As family, friends and sponsors enjoyed a beef dinner at the Athabasca Seniors Drop-In Centre, 4-Hers took home prizes for their year of hard work.

4-H leader Louise Bulas said she was quite emotional as she watched one graduate and the others do so well in competitions.

“They’ve just surpassed more than I thought they could,” she said. “They’ve just grown.”

Brooke Bowzaylo won awards for grand champion heifer, reserve grand champion overall female, intermediate showmanship, intermediate steer record keeping, intermediate heifer record keeping, intermediate public speaking and intermediate judging.

Nick Bowzaylo won awards for most improved 4-Her, reserve grand champion heifer, junior grooming, junior heifer record-keeping, junior public speaking and junior stall sign.

Kaitlynn Bulas took home prizes for reserve grand champion steer, grand champion female, grand champion cow/calf, senior grand champion grooming, senior judging, senior presentation, senior steer record keeping, senior cow/calf record keeping, most efficient and senior stall sign.

Josie Elgert won awards for 4-Her of the year, senior showmanship, senior public speaking and the perseverance award.

Logan Heck won rookie of the year, junior showmanship, junior judging, junior presentation, best steer overall rate of gain and junior steer record keeping.

Taycen Heck won intermediate grand champion grooming, and intermediate stall sign.

Jack Piquette won grand champion steer.
