The Town of Athabasca currently has a water advisory in effect and residents are advised not to drink any water directly from the tap.

The water advisory applies only to users of the Town of Athabasca water system, not the regional water service.

The advisory was put in place due to a lack of residual chlorine, below government standards, in the town water supply, said Susan Laboucan, a member of town administrative staff.

She noted residents should boil the water prior to drinking it.

Laboucan said the water supply comes from the Athabasca River and is processed in town. The Town of Athabasca is currently working on flushing the system and will continue to advise residents of the progress throughout the flushing.
