Boyle council met the public recently.
Council members, along with the village mayor and chief administrative officer (CAO), met with residents during a public meet and greet on April 11. Former acting CAO Elly Zeggelaar, who was also present during the meeting, said it all went fairly smoothly.
“Most of it was just a case of people not knowing,” Zeggelaar said, referring to questions raised by those in the community about utility prices.
The main focus of the public meeting, which was held at the community centre, was to address any concerns people may have had over current utility rates in the village, and how exactly council establishes what those rates are set at.
“We presented a copy of the budget,” said Zeggelaar, who felt that there was no single major issue or concern that residents came forward with during the event.
In total, a completed village budget, reserve data, and tax and utility information were presented to the few who were in attendance – estimated to be only 15-20 people.
In addition to Zeggelaar, each council member (Sam Assaf, David Bencharsky, Roger Hall, deputy mayor Mike Antal and Mayor Don Radmanovich) and CAO Charlie Ashbey were at hand during the session.
Based on the turnout, Zeggelaar is not sure if council will hold another public convention in the near future.
The assembly was followed by coffee and donuts and an opportunity for residents to speak with their representatives.
The meeting began at 7 p.m. and wrapped up just before 9 p.m.
