The Royal Canadian Legion Boyle Branch #169 will honour veterans next Monday beginning at 10 a.m., and as has been the case for several years, the service and luncheon will be indoors at the Boyle Community Centre.

“We are starting to hold it over at the community centre the last few years because it’s too cold and usually too miserable for the seniors being outside at the Legion,” said branch treasurer Dolores Nagel.

The ecumenical service begins at 10 a.m., with a two-minute silence at 11 a.m. and the laying of wreaths at 11:10 a.m. The lunch will follow.

Nagel said attendees can still stop by the Legion despite the community centre being the key location for the formal events.

“Afterwards, they’re all welcome to come back to the Legion for a drink if they want,” she said.

Nagel said although the Boyle Legion has not launched a formal membership drive as the Athabasca Legion has, it is always seeking new members.

“We’ve got a few new members just lately,” she said. “We’re doing pretty good so far, but you know, things are declining, so we’re just kind of working a little harder. We do our suppers every month and that sort of thing, too.”
