Any talk about municipal amalgamation won’t include the Village of Boyle.
At the Village of Boyle council meeting last Wednesday, Mayor Don Radmanovich added the topic of amalgamation to the agenda.
“I wanted to put this on the agenda because there is a mayors’ and reeve’s breakfast next Wednesday, and somehow I have a feeling (we are going to be asked) what we think of it, so I wanted it on the record,” said Radmanovich.
Councillor Sam Assaf said he is against amalgamation.
“Of course I am, they tried once,” he said.
Councillor David Bencharsky made the motion, formally stating that Boyle is not interested in pursuing amalgamation at the present time.
“We’ve had a vote on that not that long ago, and Boyle voted against, so did the county, so as far as I’m concerned it’s a dead issue,” Bencharsky said.
Village council also opted out of amalgamation talks when the concept was first raised regionally in 2003. The April 26, 2004 amalgamation plebiscite did not include the Village of Boyle, but residents of the surrounding County of Athabasca voted overwhelming against it.
The motion to not take part in amalgamation talks was carried unanimously.
