BOYLE - The emergency department at the Boyle Healthcare Centre will be without on-site physician coverage for seven hours today, Sunday, June 19.
The temporary situation will begin starting at 4 p.m. this afternoon and will run until 11 p.m.
During this period nursing staff are still on site to provide assessments and triage if necessary, and will also provide referrals to neighbouring emergency departments at the Athabasca and Lac La Biche healthcare centres if needed.
Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency. EMS calls will be re-routed to the Athabasca Healthcare Centre (45 km away) or the William J. Cadzow - Lac La Biche Healthcare Centre (66 km).
"Depending on their needs, patients seeking care at the ED in Boyle may also be made aware of services available through local pharmacies. Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency, health-related questions," noted a release from Alberta Health Services.
"AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time."
