The Town of Athabasca is asking residents to limit their water usage until a water main is repaired.

ATHABASCA - The Town of Athabasca has issued an immediate water restriction and is asking residents to limit their water usage in all areas of town except Cornwall, Wood Heights and Landing Park, the commercial area on the far east side of town.

Town CAO Rachel Ramey issued the advisory and restriction just after 9 a.m. this morning, due to depleted reservoir reserves at the water treatment plant, that have occurred since a water main burst earlier this week and shut down the spray park at Riverfront Park. The bulk water station will also be closed temporarily until the water main is repaired.

Crews continue to work on a fix, but Ramey was unable to provide a timeline, saying work will go on throughout the weekend until the issue is resolved.

She went on to say it's unfortunate this is happening during a long weekend and apologized for any inconvenience.

Updates will be provided on the Town of Athabasca Facebook page, and will be shared on the Athabasca Advocate Facebook page as well.
