BREAKING: RCMP charge Calling Lake man with murder following break-in

The Athabasca RCMP have charged a 35-year-old man with murder following a home invasion that left a man dead last week.

The Athabasca RCMP have charged a 35-year-old man from Calling Lake with second degree murder after a man was shot during a home invasion in the hamlet.

On Aug. 17 at 11:10 p.m., the RCMP responded to a home invasion in Calling Lake after armed and masked suspects broke into a residence. During the break-in, 40-year-old Edward Young was shot and killed. 

RCMP Major Crimes were called in to assist and took over the investigation. As a result of their work, a suspect has been arrested and charged with a variety of crimes related to the incident.

Terris Cardinal, 35, faces charges of second degree murder, breaking and entering, and multiple firearms offences. He was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant at the time of the alleged offence.

Cardinal was remanded into custody following an interim release hearing. His next appearance will be in the Athabasca Court of Justice on Sept. 2.
