Boyle RCMP are warning residents of recent fuel thefts in the area of Lion’s Birch Manor parking lot. Cpl. Gavin Bergey said the perpetrators “modus operandi is drilling a hole in the gas tank.”

ATHABASCA — RCMP have warned Boyle residents to be on the lookout for suspicious activity after hours following recent fuel theft incidents in the village.

In a Feb. 1 Alertable advisory, Sgt. Dennis Properzi, Boyle RCMP detachment commander, notified residents of multiple fuel thefts in the area of Lion’s Birch Manor parking lot.

“Fuel was taken from parked vehicles after culprits drilled a small hole in the vehicle gas tanks to allow the fuel to be drained,” read the alert.

Local officer Cpl. Gavin Bergey said in a Feb. 1 interview the first theft occurred on Jan. 22, and the latest occurred this morning. While no information on suspects is available, he encouraged all residents to be on the lookout for repeat incidents.

“The public’s eyes are better than us, there’s only a few of us,” said Bergey.  Anyone with information on the thefts should contact the Boyle RCMP.

More information is expected via a formal media release in the coming days.

More to come …
