The driver of a bus will appear in court next month following charges being laid in relation to a fatal collision last year.
Boyle RCMP released last week that Kaliappan Subramaniam of Fort McMurray has been charged with 18 criminal offences, which includes dangerous driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The charges stem from a collision Oct. 28, 2014 that occurred around 8 p.m. near Mariana Lakes between a northbound bus, which was transporting tradespeople to a work site near Fort McMurray, and a jeep.
Both men in the jeep died and a number of people on the bus suffered serious injuries.
The highway was closed for more than eight hours due to the collision and investigation.
The collision was one of three that involved fatalities on the remaining two-lane portions of Highway 63 north of the Atmore junction in less than a two week span, which saw a total of four people die.
The charges come following an extensive and lengthy investigation by the Boyle RCMP.
RCMP continue to stress that motorists drive safely and obey the speed limit.
Subramaniam is slated to make his first appearance in Boyle Provincial Court on Apr. 28, 2015.
