Athabasca RCMP are still searching for Rhonda Cardinal, a 41-year-old female from the Calling Lake area who went missing on July 31.
Cardinal is described as a woman of native descent, 5’4 and weighing about 170 pounds with long black hair.
Cardinal was reported missing on the evening of Aug. 1 when RCMP were notified that she did not return to a small remote hunting cabin after walking away the previous day. The cabin is located approximately 20 km northeast of Calling Lake.
Since the investigation began, RCMP have dedicated a number of resources to the search including the RCMP helicopter and numerous foot searches for the bush surrounding the cabin. As of Aug. 10, RCMP were still conducting foot patrols in the search for Cardinal, including around Highway 813 and near the trailhead at kilometer marker 74 that leads to the cabin.
Athabasca RCMP Sgt. Brian Scott said the search is continuing and they are always hopeful that a lead will turn up soon.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Cardinal to please contact Athabasca RCMP directly at 780-675-4252 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
