The fences are up and shovels are in the ground as construction starts on new seniors housing in Boyle.

Last week, APM Construction Services Inc. crews were busy setting up fences on the site of the Greater North Foundation’s Wildrose Villa project, Village of Boyle chief administrative Officer Charlie Ashbey announced at a Boyle and District Chamber of Commerce meeting on May 14.

The project will expand the current facility and build a new housing complex.

The Wildrose Villa project also coincides with the development of a new municipal centre across the street, which will contain a seniors’ drop-in centre, a library and an archive room.

Village council and administration will relocate to the building, once it’s completed in approximately two years.

Tenders on the municipal building closed on May 21 and construction for that site is expected in June, said CAO Ashbey.

“It’s an exciting time for Boyle,” he commented on the village’s upcoming transformation.

The Boyle and District Chamber of Commerce has also undergone some changes.

Chamber President Colin Piquette resigned from his post on May 14 to take on his role as MLA of Athabasca-Sturgeon-Redwater.

Piquette said it would send the wrong message to other Chambers in the riding if he sat on the board.

“You don’t want to have any perception of a conflict of interest,” he noted.

Vice president of the Chamber, Sam Assaf, will preside as interim president until the next chamber meeting in June, when a new president is elected.
