The Athabasca District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its customer appreciation breakfast on July 18 at the town common along the riverfront.

Many businesses on 49th Street host their respective customer appreciation events in conjunction with the chamber; however, chamber president Penny Semashkewich said the chamber is encouraging other businesses to get involved this year, too.

“The chamber of commerce would love to see 50th Street businesses and all business participate, ” said Semashkewich.

The day will start at 7:30 a.m. with the chamber's pancake breakfast, which runs until 9:30 a.m.

Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., free hotdogs, ice cream, beverages and snacks will be handed out to shoppers on 49th Street.

This is the 12th year for the 49th Street Bash.

Each business participates in the bash in a different way. Some will have pop, some will have donuts; others will serve hotdogs.

Judy Gauthier of Buy-Low Foods will be set up on the 49th Street sidewalk with her usual watermelon station, and a special watermelon display will be set up in-store.

“I've thought of a few things, like a circus one, ” said Gauthier of the theme for the display this year, which she said will likely feature lions, giraffes and carousel horses.
