The Athabasca chapter of Ducks Unlimited Canada has decided after an eight-year hiatus, it was time to host a fundraising dinner.

The dinner is scheduled for this Saturday at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex.

“We are kicking it off again and getting the committee going again,” said Gerry Tebb, chair of the Athabasca Ducks Unlimited Committee. “Ducks Unlimited is a group based out of Canada that conserves Canadian wetlands to improve the habitat for waterfowl.”

Ducks Unlimited Canada has completed 57 wetland projects within a 100-kilometre radius of Athabasca.

“These projects impacted 74,346 acres with a total investment of $2,977,979 to date,” Tebb said. “It not only conserves the wetlands, but at the same time provides a place for the birds to nest, grow their population and makes sure we have waterfowl today, and for the future for hunting and birdwatchers.”

Tebb said the evening is an opportunity for people to get together and have a good meal.

“They can buy merchandise that helps to raise funds for Ducks Unlimited to secure wetlands in Alberta and provide support in the U.S. as well,” he said.

Tebb explained he was always involved in the Athabasca Ducks Unlimited Committee.

“For some reason, the club didn’t have the volunteers to keep it going,” he said. “This year, I decided that we should get the event going again.”

The event will also feature a silent and live auction.

“There is lots of excitement for the people attending the event,” he said.

Tickets are $60 each or $480 for a table of eight.
