With gusty winds most of the weekend and a good soaking overnight rain before both rounds, it was a fairly good score that took the overall title.

Jake Lecuyer from Edmonton captured the overall title and the Championship flight with a two-round total of 157.

“I played pretty well on Saturday, got a lot of good breaks,” said Lecuyer after accepting the title Sunday.

“I was fortunate a bit (Sunday) as I didn’t play nearly as well, but the wind was far less of a factor than it was for the first round yesterday.”

Ryan Coish from Fort McMurray ended up second, one stroke back of Lecuyer. A bit futher back were Hubert Greene in third and Scott Kyrlock in fourth.

For those competing in the lower flights – golfers with a moderate to high handicap and playing from a closer set of tee boxes – the overall winner of that category was Athabasca’s Darrell Paradis. He was also the winner of the fourth flight.

Connor Pope, pro shop supervisor at the Athabasca Golf and Country Club, said the turnout of close to 80 golfers for the event was great and the fact there was some excellent weather made for some great play.

The rest of the results from the stroke play portion of the event were:

First flight winner Mikkel Holt, second flight winner Evan Kaminski, third flight winner Ryan Runcer, fourth flight winner Darrell Paradis, fifth flight winner Brett Topola and sixth flight winner Larry Sheets.

In the final four flights, the golfers participated in a match play format over the two days, with points being awarded for the number of holes won versus the other golfers.

The winners from each semifinal on Saturday faced each other for the flight win on Sunday.

The match play winners were: Seventh flight - Kyle Schrieber; eighth flight - Paul Gaidos; ninth flight - Jim Montague’ and tenth flight - Don Brooks.
