Vandals took advantage of the holiday break to put an ugly mark on Edwin Parr Composite.

The graffiti was sprayed on a van as well as the entire south wall of the school and several other walls on the west side. Several offensive phrases plus an image of a swastika were among what was left behind.

The vandals struck in the hours between the evening of Dec. 22 and about 7 a.m. Dec. 23 when maintenance staff noticed what was done.

Athabasca RCMP arrived later in the day and are investigating the incident. It isn’t known how many people were involved.

Maintenance staff at the school had hoped to have a steam cleaning truck assist in removing the spray paint last week, but it had not been done as of last weekend.

Officials from Aspen View Public Schools were not available for comment at press time.

Anyone with information or may have witnessed the act is asked to call the RCMP at 780-675-5122.
