A 24-year-old man is dead after his ATV collided with a pickup truck north of Athabasca on Sunday.
At 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, Athabasca RCMP was dispatched to the scene on Secondary Highway 813 approximately 29 km north of Athabasca, along with Associated Ambulance and the Athabasca Fire Department.
The RCMP’s ongoing investigation has established that the victim was driving his ATV south in the ditch on the west side of the road when he made a left turn to cross the highway without looking.
The ATV struck the side of a pickup truck that was heading south. The driver of the quad, who was not wearing a helmet according to Sgt. Brian Scott of the Athabasca RCMP, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious trauma to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Athabasca RCMP and the Edmonton Medical Examiner's Office are continuing with the investigation. No charges will be laid in the incident.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
