Town of Athabasca fire chief Jason Sturrock said crews remain in defensive attack and are continuing the demolition of the Grand Union, which has had crews on scene since a 5:41 911 call earlier this morning.

A common concern for spectators has been Bubels, a beloved store that sits next door to the Union. At 12:18, Sturrock said the building had received minimal water damage but had avoided smoke or fire damage.

Crews are continuing to douse the hotel in fire from multiple angles.

Spectators continue to watch from the sidelines.
