ATHABASCA — Four Edmonton men have been arrested and charged after a string of business thefts were committed after closing time in Athabasca.

In an April 13 press release, Const. Kyle Hotchkiss said a group of men was reportedly stealing from multiple local businesses after 5 p.m. April 10. Officers responded to a tip of the groups location, and arrested three individuals attempting to leave a business in the 2500 block of 48 Ave. A fourth individual was arrested later by officers after attempting to flee the scene on foot.

Two vehicles present were identified as related to the men in custody, and a subsequent search after obtaining a warrant resulted in the recovery of approximately $8,000 of goods stolen from three businesses in the area.

Forty-one-year-old Sebastian Chan, 35-year-old David Tran, 36-year-old Kevin Truong, and 39-year-old James Travers, all residents of Edmonton, have been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000. Tran and Truong were both arrested on outstanding warrants.

Chan, Tran, and Truong were granted conditional release following a judicial hearing and will appear in Athabasca Court of Justice April 22. Travers was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on the same date.
