French folk group return marks opening of spring season

Le Vent du Nord are coming back to Athabasca to play in the Heartwood concert series.

The Quebecois band plays a mixture of traditional folk music and original compositions.

Playing all in different countries all over the globe, the group wants to show their roots to the entire world.

The group plays at Athabasca’s Nancy Appleby Theatre this Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“Considered a driving force in progressive folk, Le Vent du Nord captures the energy and mirth of a Saturday night kitchen party, infusing old Quebec with a breath of fresh, cosmopolitan air,” states a biography on their website.

The group is made up of Nicolas Bourlerice, Simon Beaudry, Olivier Demers and Réjean Brunet and they’ve been playing together since 2002 winning a number of awards – including two Junos, a Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros and a Canadian Folk Music award.

“Music and musical families. deep history and playful innovation. Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord knows how to turn the long past into a intense and performance that push their roots in striking global directions,” the website added.

Tickets are for the concert for adults are $22 in advance and $25 at the door.

For those 18 and under, as well as 65 and over, tickets are $19 in advance and $22 at the door, while children under 12 accompanied by an adult are free.

Season passes, which get you all four spring concerts for the price of three, are also available. Adults are $85 with youth and seniors costing $73.

All tickets and passes are available at Rexall Drugs, Value Drug Mart, Whispering Hills Fuels or through Heartwood Folk Club members.
