The third annual Grassland Volunteer Fire Department open house and car show is set to take place on Father’s Day, June 15.

Fire chief Mel Peterson said the car show is free of charge, and any vehicle qualifies for the show.

“Cars, bikes, trucks, whatever you bring — semis,” he said.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

Free burgers and pop will be served.

“Instead of having just an open house, we find that bringing in the cars brings more people into the hall,” Peterson said. “It makes people aware of who we are and what we do and why we do it.”

Peterson explained all the members of the department will be present, and the fire trucks will all be shined up.

“We did some pretty creative stuff inside the hall,” Peterson said.

He stated the whole day is about awareness. People interested in joining the department are also welcome to meet the current members.

“We want people to come out. It’s all free, but we are taking donations,” he said. “Anyone who wants to donate door prizes can call me at 780-212-0039.”

Peterson said more than 100 door prizes were given out last year.
