Athabasca RCMP will be holding a virtual town hall Oct. 26 with Boyle RCMP presenting an in-person town hall Nov. 3 at the Boyle Community Hall.

ATHABASCA/BOYLE - Community engagement is a big part of the RCMP’s mandate and one of the main priorities for local detachments, and residents in the Athabasca region will have that chance to engage with local members during a couple of town hall events taking place in the coming weeks.

Athabasca RCMP will hold a virtual town hall meeting Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. and are inviting residents served by the detachment who may have comments or concerns about policing issues in and around Athabasca, Calling Lake, Colinton, Perryvale, Rochester, Baptiste Lake and Island Lake.

“Town halls are a great way to connect with local residents and community leaders to talk about policing priorities and tailor our policing service to the community's needs,” said Athabasca RCMP S/Sgt. Mark Hall, adding there will be a special guest from Alberta RCMP headquarters who will be discussing various topics including rural crime.

Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP via email to [email protected] before 4 p.m. on Oct. 26. If you wish to submit question(s), please send any inquiries along with your RSVP e-mail confirming your attendance. The link to the meeting will be provided to those that RSVP.

The Boyle RCMP Detachment will then hold an in-person town hall at the Boyle Community Centre Nov. 3, starting at 7 p.m. The Boyle detachment covers areas surrounding the village, including nearby summer villages, as well as Grassland, Wandering River, Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement and into Thorhild County.

“It is an opportunity for residents to come out and share any thoughts, feelings, or concerns about the policing in the village and surrounding area,” said detachment commander Cpl. Gavin Bergey. “I will be also going over the summer and how things went for us here at the detachment with regard to enforcement, community engagements, and goals for the rest of the year and into the new year.”
