Highway 63 will remain closed into the day Friday after it was shut down early Thursday night.
ìCurrent weather conditions are very unfavorable and travel is still not recommended,î said a press release from Cst. Christina Wilkins from Wood Buffalo RCMP. ìMaintenance crews are monitoring the situation very closely and are working to get the lanes passable as soon as possible.î
Lac La Biche RCMP have issued a travel advisory for six highways in the area, and travel is not being advised at this time.
ìAll highways in Lac La Biche County are again under a travel advisory today. These include: Highway 881, Highway 36, Highway 55 East, Highway 55 West, Highway 663, Highway 858,î said Cst. Chris Clark in a release from the Lac La Biche RCMP. ìAll of the above highways are in extremely poor condition.î
A tow ban is still in effect for the area due to the extreme hazard of the roadways.
ìThis advisory should be adhered to for your safety,î the RCMP state. ìThis advisory is expected to remain in effect until this afternoon at the earliest.î
Traffic is being diverted away from Highway 63.
ìHowever it should be noted that other roadways, especially secondary Highway 881 are listed as being in very poor condition,î the RCMP are advising. ìUpdates will be provided as further information becomes available.î
