Athabasca woman Joanne Grenier has been identified as the winner of the $1 million Oct. 26 Lotto Max win.

Grenier was running late on Oct. 29, and almost didn’t stop to check her Lotto Max ticket, which she had purchased at Buy-Low Foods.

She turned out to be the holder of one of nine lucky Max Millions tickets purchased in the prairies to win on Oct. 26.

When she checked her lottery ticket at Buy-Low, she first thought she had won $1,000.

“I was really happy with that,” she said in a press release from the Alberta Lottery Fund.

An employee put a hand on Grenier’s shoulder and informed her of the amount she had won.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to faint!’” she said.

Athabasca quickly spread the news of her win.

“Joanne plans to hold on to her winnings for a while, but she might buy herself a new trailer and some new furniture,” said the press release. “When asked if the win would fulfill any wish or dream, she had only one word. ‘Security,’ she said with a smile and a sigh of content.”
