Man arrested after Value Drug Mart robbed at knifepoint

A 48-year-old Saskatchewan man is in custody followed an alleged armed robbery Wednesday afternoon at Athabasca Value Drug Mart. According to Athabasca RCMP, shortly before 3 p.m.

A 48-year-old Saskatchewan man is in custody followed an alleged armed robbery Wednesday afternoon at Athabasca Value Drug Mart.

According to Athabasca RCMP, shortly before 3 p.m., a man wielding a knife leaped over the store's customer service desk demanding narcotic painkiillers. A female staff member provided him with some pills, and the suspect fled on foot through the front door.

The man was subsequently located and arrested by Alberta Sheriffs based out of Boyle, along with RCMP members.

Duane Henry Stadnek, 48, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. He is set to appear at the Athabasca Provincial Court sitting in Boyle on Tuesday.

RCMP continue to investigate.
