A police situation in Athabasca ’s Cornwall neighbourhood ended early Tuesday morning when a lone male was found dead.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Monday evening, Athabasca RCMP were called to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on Cornwall Drive.

Upon arrival, police heard a single gunshot, which prompted the deployment of the Edmonton RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT). Residents of the area were asked to stay in their homes.

After an RCMP crisis negotiator was unsuccessful in several attempts to contact the occupant of the home, the ERT entered the residence to find one male deceased inside.

He was the only person in the residence at the time.
