Athabasca-Redwater MLA Jeff Johnson will join Alberta Energy Minister Ron Liepert in Minnesota and Illinois from Feb. 6-9 to help promote Alberta’s energy sector.

“I know we will be meeting with legislators, industry and Canadian consuls among others,” Johnson said. “It’s part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that around the world, and in the U.S. in particular, awareness is high with respect to what Alberta has to offer and the facts around our oil sands, their potential and their responsible development.”

Johnson went on a similar trip with Liepert to Alaska in the fall.

Prior to his trip to the U.S., Liepert will be promoting Alberta energy in Europe from Jan. 28-Feb. 5.

In 2010, the projected investment in the oil sands was approximately $15 billion, while currently and for 2012, it’s in the area of $59 billion.

Canada exports nearly 1.4 million barrels of oil a day to the United States, and much of it comes from the Alberta oil sands.

“I’m looking forward to helping the minister get the Alberta message out,” Johnson said.
