Athabasca Moonlight Madness fever continues, as stores around town get ready for the festivities this Friday.

For participating Moonlight Madness merchants, giving back to the community is important, hence the Christmas Wish List Giveaway. Found in the Moonlight Madness insert of this week’s Athabasca Advocate are three lists that total $200, $300 and $500 respectively for a grand total of a $1,000 giveaway. The lists or entry forms are to be cut out from the Moonlight Madness insert where hopeful shoppers can write down between one and 10 items per form (as long as the valued amount does not exceed the dollar amount on the form). Include the name, price and store where the item can be found, as well as personal contact information.

All entry forms are to be submitted at Cheap Seats Sporting Goods before 11 p.m. on Friday night for a chance to win everything on the wish lists.

The draw will take place the following morning.

Moonlight Madness will also serve to ring in the holiday season with a special Christmas parade, the lighting of the Town of Athabasca Christmas Tree, and fireworks on the riverfront, according to parade marshal Rebecca Osmond.

“It’s all about getting into the Christmas spirit, and so each float will have a holiday theme with all the bells and whistles,’ Osmond said.

“The parade will also have our special guest Santa, who will be riding along with Pioneer Oilfield Rentals Ltd. at the end of the parade, so everyone should look out for him to come by.”

Osmond said there are currently almost 25 floats registered in the parade. It will start at the riverfront near the bandstand at 6:30 p.m. and will go south on 49th Street, west on 49th Avenue, north on 50th Street, and then come back down to the riverfront area.

After the parade, Santa will make his way over to the Athabasca Town Common for the Christmas Tree Light-Up at the riverfront where fireworks will light up the skies.

At around 7 p.m. Santa will make his way over to the Servus Credit Union on 49th Street for a chance to take pictures with the kids both young and old.

“It seems that every year this event gets bigger and bigger, and it’s always a fun time for everyone who comes out,” Osmond said. “Only some people will be throwing candy out at the parade, but I know everyone will be smiling and having a great time.”

Shoppers will want to pop in and out of lots of local retailers to see what’s happening.
