Incumbent Roger Morrill will be Athabasca's mayor for the next four years.

He beat former town councillor George Hawryluk by 142 votes in the election that ended this evening.

Morrill received 402 votes, while Hawryluk received 260. Barbara Bell was the third candidate and received 129 votes.

"I would like to thank the community of Athabasca for their endorsement of myself for mayor," Morrill said. "I must give credit to a great core support team and my family."

Morrill has been mayor for the last three years and is looking forward to continuing for the next four.

"I ran for mayor for the single important reason of giving back to my community -one that has been so good to me and my family," he said.

Hawryluk said, "I won either way," stating he has served the community for nine years, and that the people have spoken.
