Mud bogs and midway add to wild rides at Boyle Rodeo this weekend

The annual Boyle Rodeo and affiliated events are scheduled for July 18, 19 and 20.

In the last few years, there have not been enough competitors to have a three-day rodeo, so this year the rodeo is only Saturday and Sunday.

The gate price is $10 for adults and $5 for youth each day, and kids under six are free.

For the first time in Boyle, Friday night will feature entertainment in the form of ATV mud bogs.

“On Friday night, the gates open at 5 p.m.,” organizer Keith Sereres said. “We have registrations at 5 p.m. for the quad mud bogs.”

The mud bogs are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

“There are lots of stock classes, so guys and girls can just bring their stock quads and try the pits out,” he said. “They are 150 feet long, three feet deep and 10 feet wide and will be filled with two feet of water and muskeg.”

Sereres said they are considering a modified pit for the modified ATVs.

“We are going to have a king and queen of the mud bogs,” he said. “There are going to be prizes of upwards of $500.”

The band Ettinger will play Friday night; tickets are $10.

Another new addition to the rodeo festivities is the midway, which will run all weekend.

“It is going to be either a 10- or 12-ride midway,” Sereres explained. “There will be cotton candy, candy apples, etc.”

Another rodeo organizer, Lucille Chisan, said the Mustang Show by Claude Chausse has been confirmed for Saturday and Sunday during the rodeo.

“The show begins with Chausse’s black horse acting like a wild mustang,” she explained. “However, the pair performs increasingly impressive stunts over 15 to 20 minutes.”

Saturday starts off with an 8 a.m. pancake breakfast at the Boyle Community Centre, which is hosted by the Gateway Community Church of Boyle.

“The parade starts at 10 a.m. Grand entry is at 1 p.m., and the rodeo starts at 1 p.m.,” said Sereres.

The rodeo is scheduled to run until approximately 5 p.m.

“The volunteer fire department is putting on their annual steak supper,” Sereres said. “On Saturday, the concert opens at 7 p.m. We have Ettinger opening for Kenny Shields & Streetheart.”

The cost to see Streetheart on Saturday is $60.

Sereres said the band still has all the original members from 1997.

“They are the number one sought-after classic rock band in Canada right now,” he said.

The rodeo and midway will run from 1–5 p.m. on Sunday.
