ATHABASCA — A new family physician hailing originally from eastern Europe is now practicing at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre.
According to an Alberta Health Services (AHS) release, Dr. Inga Secrieru joins a team of seven other family medicine physicians within the community of Athabasca.
“I’m so pleased Dr. Secrieru is bringing her skills and expertise to Athabasca,” said Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock MLA Glenn van Dijken, in the release
“I look forward to seeing how Dr. Secrieru’s experience and contributions will improve primary care in our region.”
Dr. Joe Stander, associate zone medical director for AHS, added that family physicians are often the first point of healthcare for people and having the new physician practice locally will increase the access to quality healthcare in Athabasca.
Dr. Secrieru originally hails from Moldova, a small country that borders Ukraine to the east and Romania to the west. She completed her medical training and residency in Moldova and practiced as a family physician there before coming to Canada.
She, her husband and their two children spent time in Calgary before moving to Athabasca. As noted in the release, they are an active young family who enjoy a variety of sports and outdoor activities.
AHS continues to recruit physicians to fill vacancies across northern Alberta, the release adds.
Its physician resource planners are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities, working closely with groups like local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan and independent physician attraction and retention committees.
