Oil spill 15 kilometres south of Boyle

A semi hauling two tanker trailers of crude oil rolled over in a ditch along Highway 831 on Sunday morning, and traffic is down to one lane as cleanup of the oil spill continues, say Boyle RCMP.

Boyle RCMP are asking motorists to exercise caution as they pass the scene.

The rollover took place about 15 kilometres south of Boyle. The driver escaped with only minor injuries; the truck was recovered yesterday.

RCMP say weather and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the incident, though other factors like mechanical failure or driver error have not been ruled out.

Alberta Transportation and the Alberta Energy Regulator were on scene Monday afternoon as HAZMAT crews began cleanup, Cst. Alex Ayres reports.

Neither Alberta Transportation nor the Alberta Energy Regulator could provide comment on the incident as of posting of this story.
