One dead following two-vehicle collision Feb. 14

BOYLE – An Athabasca resident is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Township Road 685 near Highway 63 in Athabasca County on the morning of Feb. 14.

According to an RCMP news release, Boyle RCMP responded to the scene of the collision at approximately 9:30 a.m., though Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Athabasca County Fire Services were already on scene. A collision analyst also attended the scene later to assist in the investigation.

The collision was between a pickup truck believed to be heading west and a semi-truck that was eastbound. The driver of the pickup, a 41-year-old male, was pronounced deceased on the scene, while the driver of the semi was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by EMS. There were no passengers or additional occupants in either vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a portion of Township Road 685 was closed for most of the day. A single lane was re-opened around 8 p.m., and both lanes were open by morning.

The name of the deceased will not be released, and per the RCMP press release, no further updates are anticipated.
