Boyle RCMP joined forces with the Boyle Integrated Traffic Unit on July 13 and caught 37 speeders in two hours on Highway 663.

“In just over two hours, the vehicles were stopped with speeds as high as 45 km/hr over the limit recorded,” Const. Alex Ayres said. “Vehicles were noted to be travelling as high as 95 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone after being given ample time to observe speed signs.”

Ayres reported the enforcement resulted in more than $6,000 in fines.

“Other warnings were issued to drivers and passengers for offences such as failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to produce documents,” Ayres said. “We expect drivers to slow down and observe the posted speed limits when entering the Village of Boyle.”

Boyle RCMP would like to remind citizens to obey the rules of the road and observe speed limits, which are designed to keep all users of the road safe. Officers from both units will continue to monitor traffic and enforce provincial laws on all local highways and roads.

Four impaired drivers removed from area Highways

On July 11, Boyle RCMP was busy enforcing traffic safety and removed six drivers from the highways.

“Drivers were removed for offences ranging from impaired driving to driving while suspended as a result of multiple collisions, complaints and proactive policing on area highways,” Ayres said. “In the early evening, Boyle RCMP were alerted to a dispute in progress in the area of Atmore. Officers were enroute when they were advised the subjects, who were believed to be intoxicated, drove away from the residence.”

RCMP located the vehicle, although both occupants had fled on foot.

“Both were located a short time later and were arrested without further incident,” he said.

Kyle Gauthier and Peter Hamelin face charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, refusing to provide a breath sample, and resisting arrest among the near 20 criminal and provincial offences in total between the two. Both have been committed to custody pending a bail hearing.

“Around the same time, Boyle RCMP were advised of a single vehicle rollover on Highway 831 near Long Lake Provincial Park,” Ayres said. “An officer attended and found that the driver is believed to have been impaired behind the wheel and operating a motor vehicle while being suspended from doing so.”

The male was transported to an area hospital before being airlifted to Edmonton.

“The investigation is continuing at this time and charges are expected to be laid in the near future,” he said. “Shortly after that, Boyle RCMP were advised of multiple motor vehicle collisions on Highway 63 north of Wandering River.”

One driver was found to be operating the motor vehicle while being prohibited from doing so.

“The driver is facing a criminal charge of operating a motor vehicle while being prohibited to do so in Canada,” he said. “Lastly, Boyle RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in the Village of Boyle in the late evening. As a result, two traffic stops were conducted with vehicles near the campground in Boyle.”

During the traffic stop, a Graduated Driver’s Licence (GDL) driver was alleged to have consumed alcohol.

“As a result, he was issued a 30-day driving suspension under the Alberta Zero Alcohol Tolerance (AZAT) Program and had his vehicle seized for seven days,” he explained. “At the second traffic stop, a driver was found behind the wheel while his ability to operate the motor vehicle is believed to have been impaired by alcohol. The driver was subsequently arrested and a demand was made for samples of his breath. As a result, the driver will be facing charges including impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while exceeding the legal limit.”
