Investigators looking into the cause of a fire last Wednesday located human remains inside the debris of the burnt out home.

Boyle RCMP along with fire investigators made the discovery following the blaze at a farm home located at the corner of Paxson Road and Range Road 203.

The remains were sent to the medical examiners office in Edmonton for identification and to determine the cause of death.

“An autopsy was conducted on Friday, but the results are not yet available. And depending on the results and pending further discussions, we are unable to confirm the individual’s identity,” said Boyle RCMP Cst. Alex Ayres.

The RCMP were also unable to state if a cause of the blaze has been determined or when the determination would be made.

Fire crews from Boyle, Athabasca and Colinton were called shortly before 10 a.m. to find the house fully engulfed in flames.

There were no indications anyone may have been inside and the house, along with a fifth wheel trailer parked next to the home, were completely destroyed.

Crews initially keep the scene clear with flames coming from a 100-pound propane bottle and a much larger propane tank nearby that had firefighters setting up hoses to keep it from overheating and causing more problems.

By the time fire crews had ensured the area was safe to enter, the fire had almost burned itself out. That made it easier to extinguish what was left so crews could clean up and head home.
