St. Albert election checklist, v. 2.0

This comes a few days late, but the race for city council attracted a few more candidates when Roger Lemieux said he'll seek a second term and Wes Brodhead indicated he's willing to give it another try.

Lemieux, 62, made his candidacy official last Friday, explaining he wants to see through several initiatives from the current council term. Some of his top priorities include fiscal restraint, affordable housing, and working with developers to facilitate commercial and industrial building activity.

The long-time St. Albert resident and businessman was first elected to council in 2007 with 6,757 votes, good enough for fourth place just behind James Burrows.

Brodhead said he learned from his experience in 2007 when he came in 10th with 5,173 votes. A member of the city's environmental advisory committee, has listed industrial development as a goal, along with affordable housing and ideas like smart growth.

That leaves the election checklist at three for incumbent councillors seeking re-election:

* Len Bracko

* Gareth Jones

* Roger Lemieux

Challengers include:

* Wes Brodhead

* Cam MacKay

* Stanley Haroun

* Cathy Heron

* James Van Damme

Two individuals whose names you won't see on a ballot Oct. 18 include Coun. Carol Watamaniuk who appears ready to move on, and union leader and columnist/blogger David Climenhaga, who came in eight place in 2007 with 5,804 votes.

Nolan Crouse remains the lone candidate for the mayor's chair.
