Sunshine and showers in Athabasca’s forecast this week

Environment Canada's seven-day forecast for the Athabasca area is calling for sunshine and showers.

ATHABASCA — A new week means a new seven-day forecast for the Athabasca area, and locals can expect a mix of spring sunshine and showers over the coming days.

According to Environment Canada’s predictions for May 13 through 19, spring will be in full swing for the beginning of the week. Monday is expected to remain sunny and warm, with similar weather on Tuesday. Day time highs for both days will hover around 20 degrees, with the UV index reaching five, on the high end of moderate exposure.

Wednesday’s temperatures are predicted to drop to 17 degrees, with a mix of sun cloud occupying the sky. A 40 per cent chance of showers is anticipated for Wednesday night, with overnight temperatures reaching as low as six above.

More rain is expected throughout Thursday with showers predicted for Thursday night and into Friday. Daytime highs for Thursday and Friday will be cooler than the rest of the week, at 10° and 13° respectively, and could drop to three degrees overnight on Friday.

The sunshine is anticipated to return for the weekend, with mixes of sun and cloud and climbing temperatures expected for the weekend. Saturday will see daytime values rise back up to 15 degrees above, and Sunday could get up to 18 degrees.
