A super wide load being hauled by Entrec is causing rolling nighttime closures on sections of highway between Lloydminster and Fort McMurray from Monday to Friday this week.

Tonight, the load will be travelling from Radway to Wandering River from 10 p.m. 'til 6 a.m. along Highway 63.

It is expected to pass the Village of Boyle around 12:30 a.m.; however, snow may slow the load down.

The closures all take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on un-twinned sections of highway to allow the convoy to pass. The load will take up a full two lanes of highway including shoulders.

Signs have been posted along the route to notify drivers of the closures. Drivers can expect waits up to 30 minutes during these closures and are urged to take alternate routes.

The closure dates for specific highways are as follows:

On March 27, 200 kilometres of Highway 63 between Wandering River and Fort McMurray will be closed.

Finally, on March 28, Highway 63 will be closed north from Fort McMurray for 90 kilometres.

Media spokesperson for Entrec Dan Killin asks motorist to be patient and not to pass the load.

"Pilot vehicles, an RCMP escort and flag persons will travel with the loads to control traffic and enhance safety," he explained. "Government of Alberta policy requires oversized loads to pull over periodically when travelling at a speed of more than 10 kilometres per hour below the posted speed limit."

More information on the route and closures can be found at 511.alberta.ca.
