Two men were arrested last Sunday after Boyle RCMP received a complaint of a shooting on the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement.

Jason Blyan of Caslan and Wade Holhauser of Edmonton have been each charged with four counts under the Criminal Code, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and being in a motor vehicle with a firearm. Blyan is also charged with carelessly carrying or handling a firearm, and Holhauser is charged with fleeing a peace officer.

During the early morning hours of Mar. 8, Boyle RCMP received a complaint that a man was being shot at near a residence on the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement. They immediately went to the area, but couldn’t find any evidence.

They continued to investigate, however, interviewing residents and scouring the area. During this investigation, they located the vehicle that was alleged to be involved. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled the scene. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was stopped and two men were taken into custody.

During the short chase, an officer noticed the occupants throwing something out the window. This was later located and identified as a loaded rifle.

“There were no other vehicles on the road at the time and at no time was the public at risk during this operation,” said Sgt. Kevin McGillivray, Boyle Detachment Commander. “Our officers were able to safely stop the vehicle and apprehend the suspects without injury to any person involved.”

After his arrest, Blyan was remanded into custody until his bail hearing. Both will appear in Boyle Provincial Court on Mar. 24 at 10 a.m.

Although the alleged shooting victim was later found with no injuries, RCMP continue to investigate the matter. They ask anyone with information regarding the alleged shooting to call the detachment at 780-689-3622 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
