Hundreds of Canadians from near and far gathered in Smoky Lake to watch the annual, much-anticipated Giant Pumpkin Drop

This year, there were two 700-plus pound pumpkins to drop on an old junk car, and neither of the gigantic thuds were a disappointment to audience members.
The Giant Pumpkin Drop is an unmissable event at the Smoky Lake Great White North Pumpkin Weigh-off and Fair, and this year the smash hit didn't disappoint. Hundreds gathered around the cordoned-off area, and the crowd was comprised of fairgoers from both near and far, attracting visitors from Calgary, Alta. and North Battleford, Sask. Two giant pumpkins weighing approximately 700 lbs were hoisted to dizzying heights by way of an industrial crane before being released to crash spectacularly on top of a junk car painted with the names of the 2025 grad class from H.A. Kostash School
