The Athabasca woman that allegedly stuck a boy with a vehicle on Tuesday night has now been officially charged.

Crystal Andres, 36, will make her first court appearance on Apr. 27 to respond to criminal charges of dangerous driving causing death and failure to remain at scene of accident.

Andres appeared before a Justice of the Peace and has been released from custody, said Athabasca RCMP Staff Sgt. Brian Scott.

About 8:30 p.m. last Tuesday, Athabasca emergency personnel responded to the scene on the Highway 55 east hill where a 12-year-old boy has reportedly been thrown into the south ditch after being struck by an eastbound vehicle.

In spite of effort at the scene and at hospital, the boy succumbed to the injuries sustained in the incident.

A vehicle, later identified as a 2006 Ford Freestar, was recovered following Andres turning herself into police around 11 p.m. that evening.

S/Sgt. Scott added that their investigation is continuing.
